In today’s economy companies are cutting costs and reducing employee size, but their online advertising and marketing initiatives still remain front and center. Enter Impact Engine, the display advertising platform that aims to serve all market constituents, make flash creative easily accessible (and editable), reduce campaign costs, and increase value for advertisers and publishers alike.

One Stop Shop

Neil Greer, Co-Founder, sat down with me to discuss what makes Impact Engine so important to the online advertising milieu. According to Greer, the online advertising spend on display ads totaled $9 billion in 2007, and this figure is expected to grow by an additional $3 billion between 2009 and 2011.

Impact Engine wants to be the solution for advertisers, ad agencies, publishers, and ad networks. Publishers can use it as a private label display ad store, agencies and advertisers can benefit from the prefabricated ad types, custom reports, and the media placement network, and ad networks get more control over higher quality ads.

Impact Engine client list

I’m personally not a fan of display ads (I ignore them just like everyone else) and encourage brands, marketers, and publishers to explore other avenues, but Greer notes that business is booming (some of their clients can be seen above) and Impact Engine’s revenue from publishers alone has increased 120% since they launched the product. Impact Engine will be announcing a number of new partnerships in the new year, including one with Yahoo for media placement. Also notable is that all ads stay below 16kb during initial load, making them publisher and end-user friendly.

Subscriptions fees start at $197 a month for advertisers and agencies with cost per click, cost per engagement, or cost per acquisition pricing models. Publisher fees are based on site volume.

Revenue Share for Designers

There’s an added bonus for freelance flash designers looking to participate in a rev-share with Impact Engine. Greer touts that the platform is format agnostic, allowing advertisers to upload their own ads, customize existing ads, or select from ads submitted by the designer community. Flash designers/developers can download Impact Engine’s API, create unique display ads, and upload their masterpieces for approval and addition to the Impact Engine catalog.

Designers can earn anywhere from 20% to 50% of ad buys associated with their concoctions. Given the millions of flash designers out there, Greer hopes to harness their creative intelligence for the benefit of everyone.
